We’ve made new friends in town at the Recycling Center! Andre, Jo and myself volunteered at the ACC Recycling tent at this year’s AthFest. Liz, Kristine, and Suki showed us the ropes then turned us lose to inform Athenians about what goes on with recycling in Athens. It was fun to see peoples reactions to the new ad campaign, and to be a part of the event.
We were happy to donate the use of our styling chairs where people could get fake tattoos to show off their recycling spirit! It was a great time had by all. Thanks again to the ACC recycling staff for mentioning us on the radio and allowing us to be a part of such an important event.

Krimson and I take trapeze classes together at Canopy studios. Every week for the last who knows how long she has been telling me that she was going to let me cut it off, and today was the day! After going over the few ideas that she had, and me throwing in my two cents, we arrived at a rough plan. Krimson has beautiful baby fine hair that she sweeps into a ponytail

a no nonsense dream... full of nonsense!
most of the time because of her work at her restaurant, the Krimson Kafe, and tons of time on her mountain bike. Losing this ponytail was certainly worth it. I kept her hairline soft and natural, and the rest of the edges are full of separation so that her waves will come rolling out. I love love love it.
To amp up her hair we started with Tea Tree’s Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner, and before her blowout I used a small amount (knowing even a small amount was more than what she would use!) of Thicken Up. She walked out with loads of texture, a little oomph, and tons of flavor!

My friend Missy came in last Saturday after a week of feeling less than impressed with her hair. She had a couple of ideas, but wasn’t sold on any of them. We did a ton of brainstorming before finally coming up with the ultimate! With summer on the way it seemed best to push her natural blonde to a whole new level.

before she was loooong!

After, she was a star!
For the hairdresser’s out there, I’ll just preach to what you Paul Mitchell lovers already know, Dual Purpose Lightener is the best ever! 15 vol. in the platinum card technique and Missy was blonde. I massaged in just a tad of the new Flash Finish to make her bling… And Bling she did!
I love it! And it looks like everyone she runs into is nuts about it too!

This was the text I received from a friend after her recent visit. You think she liked her hair?

Simply Gorjus
Sara Jean was a skeptic at first. The child of two hairdresser’s has been the Queenbee of her own looks for quite a few years, and was a bit unsure about putting her tresses in the hands of someone else. But by the end, I had made her mine! I had so much fun with her crazy hair, and even if it takes months for her to come back, I will love to do it again. Thanks Sara-J!
I love my job…

A big thanks to all of those who came out to check out and toast to our new wing. It was absolutely fabulous seeing all the familiar faces. Thanks to my cousin Laura from Gardenia Floral Design for bringing us such beautiful flowers. There were lots of smiles (perhaps from the sangria), old friends, new friends, and little friends. The whole thing was fun! I hope to see everyone at our next cocktail hour!
To Honey! Hip hip hooray!

With not much time to spare, Honey’s was asked to style the hair of 28 models for the recent show, “Confessions,” put on by students from UGA. With added support from our neighbor Johnny from Jon Michael Salon, the whole thing went off without a hitch. All of the models were finished with time to spare. The show was in the lab at Cine- a perfect location for such an event! I hope they call us next year!
Here’s a picture that we took. You can see more at onlineathens

We squeezed some of the ladies in for a quick picture before the whole thing got rolling.

Well, I threatened to use some of the new techniques that Lori and I learned at the Hair Camp in Augusta… and I did!
On Wednesday, my dear Sarah Drew came in ready for something new, but not sure how much she wanted to change. Her graduated bob had grown out way far. Thank goodness for those beautiful curls she has: they hide some of the most neglected cuts! We came up with a lovely combination of the “Talesha” cut from class and a cute model from a recent ReadyMade magazine. It was the right mix of ocean waves and Bohemian chic!
And then Friday! Friday! Brand new to Honey’s Salon came Ginnie. She had bid on and won a gift certificate I had entered in an auction benefiting the Athens Area Homeless Shelter.

Pretty Ms. Ginnie making waves with her new hair!
Ginnie knew a rough idea of what she was after, and more importantly, what she wasn’t after. We went for a neutral brown and topped it with honey and caramel highlights. Maybe we could call her a Butter Pecan Dream! I absolutely loved doing her color! It was just the challenge I was after on a sleepy rainy Friday.
This was definitely a great week!

Lori and I went to Augusta this past weekend to see what was up and coming in the world of Paul Mitchell. Almost as soon as we got there, we started to wonder why the city had been dubbed “DisGusta?” The downtown has really great architecture and is home to a wide variety of businesses (unlike Athens’ bars and boutiques downtown). We ate dinner at Nacho Mamas on Broad Street. The Mahi Mahi tacos were delicious, and the guacamole was out of this world! So good (and inexpensive) that we almost forgot what we were in town for!
The class started on Sunday morning. We kicked off with a new cut they are calling “Talesha” after the model who inspired the look. It’s twist on the classic graduated bob, left longer, and then covered in some dynamic disconnection. This would be a great option for someone with tons of hair that is currently long and looking to go shorter. The model they showed with the style had tiny tiny curls that they accented with pinks purples and baby blue. What an exciting way to show your Spring colors!
We learned some crazy new color techniques using a hair brush to apply color. The vote is still out on whether or not we’ll use this one at Honey’s… but who knows, you could be the first to get it!
After six hours of hands-on learning, Lori and I packed up our new skills, as well as manikin heads full of crazy color, and headed back to Athens. Now I’m ready to get back to work, and adapt my new knowledge to work for my clients at Honey’s. We’re full of ideas, now’s the time to schedule for a new color!
