This time the spill is truly catastrophic, and they are calling for as much help as fast as possible. Groups of volunteers have been assembled all along the coast to stuff nylons with hair to make the booms. Today I sent down 65 lbs of hair to Valparaiso Florida to be processed by volunteers at  ”boom-b-ques.” They’re trying to make it a fun process down there, and we’re trying to do the same here.

Please come by Honey’s Tuesday, May 11th, from 5-7. We’ll have some snacks and you can come hang out. We’ll be taking donations for Matter of Trust, we’ll take nylons (they can have runs, just no big holes), and you shave your head. That’s right, come by honey’s and get a free summer cut. It’s a SHAVE-A-THON.  Bonus points if you come by bike or on foot. I know we’ll have more men than women I’m sure, but let’s see how many brave women we’ve got out there. It’ll be fun, I promise. No appointments necessary. Bring a friend. SPREAD THE WORD. It all goes to saving the coast.

I think Germaine looks positively stunning with her new ‘do. Her cut is decidedly asymmetrical and her color has beautiful tones of gold, copper, and citrus. We’ll change it a bit more each time she comes in, cultivating a truly fantastic new Germaine on the outside to go with the wonderful artist she is on the inside.

Don’t get scared, we’re not going anywhere! Us gals have have some stuff that has got to go though. The four of us plus the owners of Mercury are clearing things out of our closets. Expect to find: furniture, frames, art supplies, antique silver, clothing, construction equipment and supplies, and fabulous miscellany!

It’ll be during “townie” hours. No early birds! Come this SATURDAY, MARCH 6TH from NOON to 5pm. We’ll crank up the popcorn machine and have the good sounds on the stereo!

Then on SUNDAY MARCH 7TH from 2-5pm you can come celebrate Canopy Studio‘s birthday, play on the trapeze, eat birthday cake, and watch Jo perform on the trapeze! It’s free!

Spring is almost here, and we can’t wait!

I have been dreaming of cutting Jessica’s hair like this for so long. She has curly curly curly hair on top and more like wavy underneath. So this shape is perfect for her. We begun her haircut same as always (a cute graduated bob) then she got up the nerve to go for it! I am so glad we did! 

I hope you’re still loving it, Jessica. You looked unbelievably cute! So cute that we’re all still talking about it…

Miss Nina learned all about taking the Pixie Plunge last Saturday! She’d been wearing a sweet little bob for about a year and a half; and her mama, Sue, was ready for a change. We wanted some hair gone, and the little pink-lovin’ lady still wanted to look like a girl. Nina is not one to shy away from risky business in the fashion department, and I’m not one to shy away from a messy pixie, soooooooo… VOILA!

And she was even kind enough to ham it up for us afterwards! Thank you, ladies!

I don’t know how I missed it but January is already almost done. The New Year has been very good to us, and I hope you all can say the same thing!

January 12th we added a new bee to the hive.  Liz Doerr comes to us with 5 years of experience from another Athens salon. She and is a local girl with a heart of gold and I ‘m so glad to know her. Liz’s place in the salon is already so important to our day to day that I hope we can hold on to her forever!

January 29th will be our two year anniversary. I simply cannot explain how grateful I am to have met so many amazing people and to have gone on this incredible journey. I hope there are many years to come. WE’LL BE DOING IT UP AT LITTL KINGS SHUFFLE CLUB STARTING AT 6! IT’S KARAOKE NIGHT!

This holiday season, we gals at the hive will be doing a fundraiser for Food 2 Kids, which is a project of the Junior League of Athens and a branch of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. The program provides food to children who are at risk of going hungry on the weekends. They are sent home on Fridays with a 5-7 pound sack of foods like fruit, peanut butter, cereal, pop-can soups and ravioli, and crackers. All things an unattended child could prepare for themselves. Clarke County has a 32% poverty rate and 61% of Clarke County School District’s children receive free or reduced. The need for assistance is clearly there, therefore, so is the need for further funding.

We are so excited to raise money for this program and be a part of helping to spread the word. 

And now for the fun part! We have put up the tree and will be decking it out this week. To raise funds for Food 2 Kids, we will be “selling” ornaments off the tree and presents from under the tree. Each ornament has a number that corresponds to a super awesome gift! You won’t know what you’re getting until you get it, but I can tell you you’re gonna love it! They include things from: Stylized Portraiture, Studio Mod Glass, Balance Pilates, White Tiger Gourmet, Missy Kulik, Red Eye Coffee, 1000 Faces Coffee, ACC Recycling, Terrapin Brewery, and Honey’s. You won’t be disappointed! The ornaments and presents range from $5 to $30 and are an easy way for you to knock off an item from your shopping list or give yourself a holiday season boost. Just come by during December with either cash or a check ready to be mad out to the NEG Food Bank and walk out with a fabulous gift!

Isn’t Ms. Shauna the most beautiful creature! We did it up real nice with some PM Shines in a new block color pattern with customized color formulas just for her! Coppers and red wine tones with beautiful new layers to match. Not to toot my own horn, but check out that beautiful blow out!

We sent Shauna out the door to go to band practice looking ultra fabulous. I insisted she play with a fan blowing her beautiful new hair in the wind! Movie star, Rock star, my pretty star. Let’s hang out again soon Shauna!
